Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness

The annual Goat For Joe Golf Tournament and BBQ is a fundraising event orchestrated by Dana and Andrea Albert through the San Marcos Rotary Club Foundation. The memorial event was created in memory of Joseph Aaron Nunez who passed away by suicide in March 2017. There are several families in North County San Diego that may have a “Joe” in their lives that is struggling with mental illness such as suicidal thoughts, anxiety, depression, schizofrenia, bipolar disorder, or any other debilitating behavioral health issues.

We strive to create community awareness and to educate people about identifying mental illness symptoms in loved ones. Often times and particularly in grown men, people are ashamed and afraid to seek out professional and spiritual help. We hope to eliminate the stigma behind the topic and to encourage families to seek out resources and professionals that can help with Suicide Prevention and Mental Illness.

The primary beneficiary of this year is the North County Health Services Behavioral Health Division. NCHS is a North County San Diego based non-profit medical service provider serving those with limited income or limited access to affordable healthcare services. NCHS has specialty centers with Mental & Behavioral Health service in Oceanside, San Marcos, and Perris.
