A Grand Opening for Palomar’s New Library/Learning Resource Center

SAN MARCOS, CA ― Palomar College officials cut the ribbon at the new Library/Learning Resource Center (LRC) on campus during a ceremony on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019. The ceremonial opening followed nearly a month of operation in which students have settled into the new building, from the first-floor computer lab to the fourth-floor study hall with panoramic views of North County.

“The LRC is a flagship academic library, strategically located to serve students, faculty, staff and the community for generations to come. It is not only a state-of-the-art facility, but the true heart of our campus,” said Palomar College Superintendent/President Dr. Joi Lin Blake

During Friday’s event, college officials spoke about the significance of the LRC to the campus community, and afterward guests and dignitaries toured the new building.
A visually stunning building packed with state-of-the-art technology, reference desks, book stacks and cozy study nooks on every floor, the LRC was funded by Prop. M, the $694 million ballot measure approved by voters in 2006.Friday’s ceremony was attended by more than 200 people, on a cool, sunny day on the plaza in front of the LRC entrance. The building remained open to students during the event.

“Every time I see the way students are using the space and enjoying the space, it reminds me why we’re here,” said President Blake. “It reminds me we need to continue investing in our students. There’s a lot of learning going on in this building.”
