The Oceanside Public Library invites the public to a special performance entitled “Jazz and the African American Vocal Artist” on Saturday, February 9, at 3:30 p.m., in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms at 330 North Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside. The performance by Michael Paul Smith and friends will include a vocal jazz concert with narrative. The concert will highlight pillars of the vocal jazz world and their significance in the African American experience and socially unifying efforts.
Michael Paul Smith began his music career at a young age, performing at a noted Los Angeles church, where he became a featured soloist and honed his unique vocal style. He studied music at Cal State Northridge and at UCLA. He has traveled throughout the world, performing opera, gospel, sacred music, Negro Spirituals, jazz and musical theater. Recently, Michael released a 6th CD of jazz and love songs.

This event kicks off Black History Month, inspiring the community to seek a greater understanding of past times and helping connect the dots to reveal a clearer picture of African American cultural and musical history. Visit the Library’s website at www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org or call (760) 435-5600 for more information. This free program is made possible through the support of The Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.
