Call to Artists: Cole Library Mural

The City of Carlsbad’s Library & Cultural Arts Department is seeking a mural artist to create a large-scale mural for the Georgina Cole Library, located at 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive. The call is open to Southern California artists. The deadline for submission is May 17 at 5 p.m.

“We want this mural to capture the spirit, energy and liveliness of the Carlsbad community,” said Curator of Exhibitions Karen McGuire. “We hope to enhance the sense of imagination, innovative programming and resources that the Georgina Cole Library provides this community.”

At a Glance
The selected artist will create an all ages-friendly mural that with a strong visual impact.
Artists must submit eight to 10 examples of their large scale work, a statement about what interests the artist in this opportunity and any relevant supporting materials. Additional details and requirements are available online.
A panel of local art professionals and community members will select the top five artists. The top five artists will be given a stipend with three weeks to submit a design.
Artists will be notified of the selection committee’s decision via email by Sept. 1, 2019.
The project will begin Sept. 9, 2019 and the mural completion is expected by Oct. 31, 2019
Please note that the City of Carlsbad reserves the right not to select any of the artists.
The budget is $35,000 and includes the artist’s time, travel, wall prep and materials.
