Carlsbad City Council to Review Airport Comments

The Carlsbad City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday, July 31, at 9 a.m. to discuss its response to revised sections of the County of San Diego’s draft environmental report for the McLellan-Palomar Airport Master Plan.

The County of San Diego, which owns and operates the airport, is working on an updated master plan that includes adding safety features at the west end of the runway, extending the runway to the east of the property and reconfiguring the tarmac and taxiway areas for better operational efficiency. 10 things to know about the airport master plan.

The City of Carlsbad has assembled a team of staff and outside experts to review the draft master plan and environmental report to help ensure local concerns are addressed. The city submitted to the county 41 pages of comments on the initial draft March 16.

Based on public input, the county revised three sections and several figures of its Draft Environmental Impact Report for the master plan and released them June 21 for public review. Comments are due Aug. 6. The city’s draft eight-page comment letter on the revised sections, which will be discussed July 31, is available in the agenda packet on the city’s website.
