SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team opened up its four-game series against Cal State San Bernardino with a 10-4 victory on Thursday night at Fiscalini Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Buck to right and an RBI single by Garcia to left.
•Garcia tallied his second RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly to center to score Teisher and put CSUSM up 4-0.
•Buck put up his ninth home run of the season in the top of the fourth with a two-run shot to right center.
•The Coyotes finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Kyle Csakan hit a solo shot to left and cut the deficit to 6-1.
•A three-run homer by CSUSB’s Gabe Chavez cut CSUSM’s lead to 6-4 in the fifth.
•CSUSM once again took a six-run lead at 10-4 in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of two-run singles by Buck and Van Til.
QUICK HITS •CSUSM improved to 20-23 (16-21 CCAA) while CSUSB dropped to 13-28 (10-25 CCAA).
•Wannamaker (3-1) earned the win for the Cougars after posting seven strikeouts with four runs allowed on eight hits in six innings.
•Coyote starter Ryan Kurtz (1-2) took the loss as he allowed four runs on four hits and two walks in just one inning.
•Now with 16 conference wins for the season, CSUSM has tallied its most-ever CCAA victories since joining the league in 2016.
•CSUSM has matched its overall win total from last season at 20.
•Garcia pushed his hitting streak to 15 games – the longest by a Cougar this season.
•Of CSUSM’s 11 hits, only one went for extra bases.
CSUSM will play its final game at CSUSB on Friday at 3 p.m. before coming home to face the Coyotes in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
