CSU San Marcos Records 84-76 Win in Home Opener Against SD Christian

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team secured a 84-76 non-conference win over San Diego Christian on Tuesday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars found themselves down 10-4 three and half minutes into the game. Back-to-back three-pointers by Soffer and Cantwell evened the game at 10.
•CSUSM took a 44-37 lead into halftime after shooting 37.8 percent (14-of-37) from the field and 40.0 percent beyond the arc.
•The Hawks came out of the half with a 11-0 run to take a 48-46 lead.
•The Cougars retook the lead at 13:14 of the second half after a Sloan 3-pointer to make it 55-52 CSUSM.
•The Hawks tied it at 63-63, but three offensive rebounds after four shots, with Elliott’s layup finally going in, gave CSUSM back the lead at 65-63.
•Cantwell went 3-of-4 from behind the arc in a minute and 25 seconds to put CSUSM up 80-69.
•CSUSM went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds to secure the win.

FAST BREAKS •The Cougars improve to 2-1 on the season while the Hawks fall to 1-2.
•CSUSM recorded 13 steals while forcing 19 turnovers in the game.
•The Hawks shot 49.2 percent from the field to CSUSM’s 37.8 percent.
•SDC outrebounded the Cougars, 43-41.
•Fuller’s double-double was his first of the season, and it was the team’s second double-double of the year.

The Cougars next compete in the Oxford Suites Classic hosted by Concordia (Ore.). CSUSM faces Northwest Nazarene on Friday, Nov. 16, before taking on the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Nov. 17. Both games are set for 5 p.m.
