SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Women’s basketball’s Akayla Hackson and baseball’s Austin Ott have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for February 2019.

The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.

For the month of February, Hackson led the team with 14.8 points per game, 19 3-point field goals, 13 steals and six blocked shots. She was named the CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24 after setting a new CSUSM record for most made 3-pointers in a single game with eight at San Francisco State. She also played a major role in helping break the team record for 3-pointers made as she and Kelsey Forrester combined for 12 at SF State.

Ott led the Cougars with a .442 batting average, two triples, 34 total bases, four sacrifice flies while leading the CCAA with 17 runs and 17 RBIs. He went 4-for-4 in back-to-back games against Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills. He also posted a grand slam for the Cougars in their win over CSUEB. For his efforts against CSUEB, he was named the CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 11-17.

Hackson will return to action on Tuesday as the Cougars host the first round of the CCAA Tournament against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5:30 p.m. Ott and the Cougars will head to Sonoma State for a four-game series beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
