City Council to Discuss Design Concepts for Public Plaza Gazebo WATCH DRONE VIDEO

There are three landmarks in Historic Vista, the Clock, the Bank Building and the Gazebo.

City Council meeting April 23 at the Vista Civic Center Council Chambers located on the second floor of the Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, Vista, CA 92084, at 5:30pm. The City Council will discuss design concepts for possible renovations to the public plaza area located at the southeast corner of Main Street and S. Indiana Avenue, and provide direction to staff.

Historic Downtown Vista has been increasingly rejuvenated with new shops, craft beer breweries, and restaurants. The Historic Bank Building has been purchased and there are plans for a rooftop SPEAKEASY, cigar lounge, restaurant(s) and retail space in the former bank. Current construction at 100 Main includes a five story building with retail on the first level and four stories of luxury apartments, with two levels underground for parking.

There has been much discussion on how to activate the corner of S. Indiana and Main Street where the Gazebo is located. The City has held two public meetings to receive input from the community on how best to use this area. The meetings were held on weekday mornings, so public attendance was low. Below you can watch the meeting from January 31, 2019. Planning Commission meeting was held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 6 pm in the Civic Center City Council Chambers, 200 Civic Center Drive, Vista, 92084. The future plans of the Gazebo were discussed.

There is also a fourth design for your consideration. A Stage has been added and the Gazebo will be maintained. SEE THE DRAWINGS BELOW

Currently all of the surrounding North County cities utilize outside music venues throughout the summer. This is the perfect location to add Vista to the mix. In the common area, music lovers can bring chairs, grab food from the many local restaurants and enjoy the Vista Climatic Wonderland. On some occasions, seating can be extended into the parking lot. The Gazebo has been the center of many events and this site has been used at Christmas for Santa and Mrs. Claus. In mid-summer you can find escape from the heat.

The Gazebo needs repairs, and it is suggested that LED lights be weaved into the plant/tree to light up the area with different colors on various holidays, like the bank building across the street.
