The holidays often bring new gadgets. Before you throw out your old cellphones, televisions and computers, remember that E-waste must be kept separate from regular trash. The City of Carlsbad offers several options for disposing of E-Waste that are convenient and help protect the environment.

E-waste includes electronics near or at the end of useful life, such as cellphones, batteries, televisions, computers, printers, wires and Bluetooth speakers.

Used batteries and unwanted cellphones, should be placed in a clear plastic storage bag on top of your recycle cart on your normally scheduled waste collection day. Larger E-Waste can be dropped off for free at the following city-approved drop-off locations:

Waste Management Buyback Center, 5960 El Camino Real, Carlsbad

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; closed noon – 12:40 p.m., no appointment needed, 760-929-9400

Stericycle Collection Facility, 1145 East Taylor St., Vista

Hours: Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., no appointment needed, 800-714-1195
