The roots of National Women’s History Month go back to March 8, 1857, when women from New York City factories staged a protest over working conditions. International Women’s Day was first observed in 1909. Before the 1970’s, women’s history was an under-reported topic and little public education was concentrated on women’s history even though women had been making history well before tossing their bras into a bonfire!
As recently as 1987, the National Women’s History Project petitioned Congress to expand the celebration to the entire month of March. Since then, the National Women’s History Month Resolution has been approved every year with bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. And the rest as we say is history… Women’s History, that is!
The first Business Women’s Mega Mixer was held in San Diego in 2010 to honor and celebrate Women’s History Month and to recognize all Women in Business. With 20+ Women’s Organizations, exhibits by women-owned or female-focused businesses and 400+ women in attendance, the response was overwhelming and that first event was a smashing success.
Now, in its 10th year, the event has become known as “historic” and “the best women’s history month event in San Diego”…with its MEGA high energy and MEGA awesome atmosphere it’s definitely one you do NOT want to miss. This year’s event will be held at QLN Conference Center, Oceanside on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM and has some new and exciting changes. Be a part of it.
Always, but especially this month, remember, honor and celebrate all the women in your life, those who came before us blazing trails and breaking glass ceilings and those young ladies who are growing into the future of women in business… then…
Let’s Celebrate together on the 28th!
