OCNA, Oceanside Coastal Neighborhood Association, announces their Candidate Forum for Districts 1 and 2 in Oceanside on Oct 16th 7-8:30 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM. This event will be held at St. Mary’s School on 515 Wisconsin Street. This non-partisan event, moderated by the League of Women’s Voters, allows the community to ask written questions regarding critically important issues impacting the future of Oceanside.

In 2017, Oceanside along with other cities in San Diego County, faced a lawsuit under the California Voting Rights Act, and decided to elect council members by district instead of a citywide vote. As a result, Oceanside now has four voting districts.

District 1 has two current candidates facing off this November, Esther Sanchez and Chuck Lowery, along with newcomers Susan Custer and Michael Odegaard.
District 2 candidates are all newcomers as Jerry Kern retires, including Dana Corso, Christopher Rodriquez, Larry Kornit, Terry Johnson, and Kristopher Kagan.

Two critical issues at stake in Oceanside this November is Measure X, increasing the sales tax 1/2% to offset police and fire expenses, and Measure Y, the SOAR initiative that requires citizen votes to change agricultural and open space zoning and land use.
