SAN RAMON, Calif. – After leading the Cal State San Marcos men’s soccer team to a 2-0 start of the season, freshman Juan Camilo Salazar has been named the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week award for 2018.

The Medellin, Colombia native, a newcomer to the Cougar Blue squad, has become an offensive standout for CSUSM in just two games. He has scored one goal and tallied two assists for four points thus far.

Salazar provided Andrew Stalboerger with the pass he needed to score the first goal of the 2018 season against Concordia Irvine last Thursday.

Salazar’s penalty kick struck gold to open up the scoring in Saturday’s Biola game. Later in the first half, Salazar once again was the set-up man but this time for Josh Mendez to put CSUSM up 2-0.

Since CSUSM joined the conference in 2015, Salazar is the second men’s soccer student-athlete to earn CCAA Player of the Week. Senior Andrew Stalboerger collected the honor in 2016 after scoring two goals in CSUSM’s 1-0 victory over then-No. 21 nationally-ranked UC San Diego and a 1-1 draw with Chico State.
