All lanes along San Marcos Boulevard at Rancho Santa Fe Road reopened late in the night on Tuesday, July 24 after a water main break forced partial lane closures and detours.

To make the area safe for motorists, crews temporarily covered the pipe excavation point (a large hole in the ground) with steel plates until a specialized replacement part is available for installation.

According to Vallecitos Water District, the water main break was caused by a decades-old corroded pipe; however, the cause of the corrosion is still under investigation.

Once the replacement parts arrive, motorists should anticipate lane closures in the near future to accommodate the permanent repair work.

Traffic updates will be posted when available and published to the city’s website at www.san-marcos.net/roadwork and social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the handle @sanmarcoscity.
