CARLSBAD, Calif., – On August 4 at 5:50 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to multiple reports of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Whitman Way.

Responding officers found two victims, an adult male and an adult female, in a courtyard area outside the apartments. Both victims appeared to have a serious gunshot wound.

The Carlsbad Fire Department responded, provided medical aid and transported the victims to a local hospital.

One adult male suspect was also located by officers in the apartment complex. He too had a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

Detectives are on scene and are investigating to understand what occurred. Investigators believe that the three knew each other and that this is not a random act. Investigators also do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.

A portion of the apartment complex has been closed off due to the investigation.
