Silent Film Thursdays at the Library

SHHHHHH, it’s the Library… every Third Thursday the Oceanside Public Library will be screening Silent Classic Films in the Foundation Room at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. Open to all ages.

On March 15 at 6:00 p.m., marvel at the genius of Georges Méliès, film pioneer. He built the first film studio in Europe, and developed special effects techniques that are still being used today. We will screen his most famous short film, A Trip to the Moon and other shorts that take a peek into the surreal mind of Méliès.

On April 19 at 6:00 p.m., join us for the screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which Roger Ebert called “the first true horror film.” Directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Jaowitz and Carl Mayer, this quintessential work of German Expressionist film introduced storytelling methods to the horror film genre.

The Library will be continuing this Silent Film Thursday at the Library on the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. through June. Stay tuned for more titles and themes! This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library and is open to the public. For more information, please visit the library’s website at www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org or call (760) 435-5600.
