Temple Heights Elementary now T.H.E. Leadership Academy

Vista, CA (January 22, 2018)- We are pleased to announce that Temple Heights Elementary has officially changed its name to T.H.E. Leadership Academy. In 2015, the school began its journey to reimagine physical spaces, instructional approaches, and voice of our faculty and students. Our commitment to the social emotional well-being of all students led to the adoption of the “Leader in Me” program, which is based on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey. The staff recommended that a committee be developed to investigate a school name change to reflect our vision, values, and history. In 2016-17, Vista Unified hired a consulting firm and a name change committee was formed, with members including students, staff, and parents. The committee considered over 100 names, and worked diligently to come to consensus through feedback surveys and thoughtful dialogue. The committee’s final recommendation to the Vista Unified school board was

“T.H.E. Leadership Academy,” with “T.H.E.” representing our historical name, Temple Heights Elementary.

The committee felt that this name honored our past, as well as our commitment to “Growing Great Leaders” through rigorous academics and programs that support students’ strengths, interests, and values. OnJune 29, 2017, the Vista Unified School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the name change to T.H.E. Leadership Academy.
T.H.E. Leadership Academy provides an instructional balance between foundational skills and rich experiences that offer opportunities for inquiry, problem solving and innovating.
