SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Women’s golf, women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s/women’s cross country will all be in action this week for Cal State San Marcos Athletics.

Women’s golf will get the week started by hosting the CSUSM Fall Classic at Woods Valley Golf Club in Valley Center, California, on Monday and Tuesday.

Women’s soccer will travel up to San Francisco State for the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament on Tuesday at 3 p.m. With a win, the Cougars would advance to the semifinals hosted by UC San Diego and play the No. 1 Tritons on Friday at 1:30 p.m. A victory in the semifinals would advance the Cougars to the final on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in La Jolla.

Volleyball will wrap up its regular season with matches at No. 12 Cal State L.A. on Friday and at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.

Men’s and women’s cross country will compete at the CCAA Championships on Saturday at Cal State San Bernardino. The men’s 8K will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the women’s 6K at 10 a.m.

CSUSM UPDATE •CSUSM returns to the Golfstat.com Top 25 rankings at No. 19 on Oct. 23.
•The Cougars placed fourth at the Skyhawk Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
•Jacob vaulted up 14 spots to earn a share of runner-up honors after carding a tournament-low 68 in the final round.
•As the defending CCAA Champion, Jacob earned CCAA Golfer of the Week (Oct. 17-23). It was her fifth career weekly honor.
•Garcia was CCAA Golfer of the Week (Sept. 19-25) after winning CSUSM’s first individual title of 2018-19 season at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate.
•Three Cougars ranking in the Golfstat.com NCAA Division II Player Rankings with Jacob leading the way with a No. 14 ranking. Hogle and Garcia rank No. 65 and No. 69, respectively.

THE HUTTON FILE •Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men’s program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women’s head coach in 2014.
•Under Hutton’s leadership, the women’s team won CSUSM’s first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018.
•Both teams qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships last season.

PREVIOUS WEEK •The Cougars clinched the No. 5 seed in the CCAA Tournament after taking losses at Chico State and Stanislaus State this past week.

CCAA FIRST ROUND MATCH AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE •The Cougars and Gators met in San Francisco on Oct. 5 and saw SFSU take a 1-0 victory after scoring an early goal.
•The Cougars are 1-3-1 in the all-time series against the Gators but have fallen in their last three meeting against SFSU.
•CSUSM is 1-2 when playing in San Francisco.
•The winner of Tuesday’s game will head to UC San Diego for the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
•This is the Cougars’ second consecutive CCAA Tournament.
•If the Cougars win on Tuesday, they would make their second consecutive appearance in the CCAA Tournament semifinals as they defeated Chico State in a shootout last season.

THE RENNEISEN FILE •Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his fifth year in charge of the women’s program and 13th overall at CSUSM
•Renneisen’s 2017 squad was the first CSUSM team sport to compete in the CCAA postseason.
•Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
•As the women’s head coach, Renneisen is 35-28-21 (.542) for his career with the Cougars.

PREVIOUS WEEK •The Cougars fell in three consecutive sets at UC San Diego on Saturday night.
•CSUSM holds a one-match lead over UCSD entering their final two matches of the season.
•CSUSM is nationally-ranked No. 33 in blocks per set (2.19) with Fortune leading the way, ranking No. 13 in blocks per set (1.13) and 24th in total blocks (113).

No. 12 CAL STATE L.A. BREAKDOWN •The Golden Eagles have already clinched the No. 3 spot in the South Division for the CCAA Tournament.
•CSULA dropped back-to-back four-set matches this past weekend at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
•On Oct. 2, the Cougars dropped a five-set heartbreaker to then-No. 14 Cal State L.A. at The Sports Center. Junior Olivia Aguilar tallied 11 kills and a .526 attack percentage in the contest.

SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS •The Toros have already been eliminated from the CCAA Tournament due to a sixth place ranking in the conference standings.
•Like the Golden Eagles, CSUDH dropped both of its matches on the road to CSUSB (0-3) and CPP (1-3) this past weekend.
•The Cougars took care of business in three sets when they faced the Toros at The Sports Center on Sept. 25th. Junior Maddy Newcombe registered 15 kills and 10 digs in the sweep.

THE LEONARD FILE •Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her eighth season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
•Leonard was CSUSM’s first-ever CCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to a third-place finish in the overall standings last season.

PREVIOUS RACE •The men’s and women’s teams finished second out of the three teams competing in their own race, the Cougar Challenge on Oct. 13.
•Senior Lisa Flora set the pace for CSUSM for the fourth time this season, finishing fourth out of 114 runners with a time of 22:24.4 in the women’s 6K.
•Senior Steven Terris was the Cougars’ top finisher for the third time, crossing the line in ninth out of 90 runners with a time of 25:48.9

UPCOMING RACE •In 2017, the women’s team earned runner-up honors with 78 points at the CCAA Championships while the men placed third with 109 points.
•The men were ranked No. 7 in the West Region by the USTFCCCA on Oct. 23 while the women were ranked No. 9.
