Solutions for Change, a local nonprofit, seeks to expand its main campus in Vista to provide increased housing and services to homeless families in the North San Diego County region. The organization currently supports nearly 190 families on their journey out of homelessness, lifting them from dependency to self-sufficiency.
Solutions for Change seeks to purchase additional properties adjacent to its existing campus in Vista in order to add more units of affordable supportive housing. With a waitlist of over 400 families, the organization seeks to bring its successful “Solutions University” program to more homeless families. On Tuesday, November 27th, the Vista City Council voted 4-1 in favor of considering a $2.7 million loan to the local nonprofit from the City’s affordable housing fund. The loan will allow Solutions for Change to purchase two parcels next to its headquarters in Vista. Solutions for Change will also apply for $7.1 million from the County of San Diego Innovative Housing Trust Fund to support the expansion. The Council instructed city staff to work with Solutions for Change to further develop the scope of the proposal. Solutions for Change will report back to the City in 90 days with more details.
