Young Marines Spaghetti Dinner and Fundraiser Was a Victory

The North San Diego County Young Marine’s held their 1st Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction fundraiser on Sunday, August 13th, at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum located in Vista. The purpose of the dinner was to raise funds for the Young Marines. These young boys and girls tirelessly serve the North County community. Mayor Ritter read a proclamation declaring Monday August 14, 2017 as North County Young Marine Day in the City of Vista. These Young Marines have been an inspiration and strong supporter of the Vista community. They volunteered nearly 10,000 hours this year supporting the community and its military and veterans.

The attendees were greeted by these young boys and girls and directed to their tables which were beautifully decorated. Background music played as people were seated. The program began with a prayer of thankfulness, the Color Guard displayed the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Mayor Judy Ritter.

Dinner was served by the Young Marines starting with lemonade and iced tea. The first course was a delicious salad followed by a plate of hot and tasty spaghetti and garlic bread. The dinner ended with a mouth watering bread pudding and ice cream.

Cal Grimes was quoted as saying, “The outpouring of support Sunday for our very first spaghetti dinner fundraiser was phenomenal! From our amazing adult staff, to the volunteers from the museum, to our Young Marines, and to the 420+ people that showed up to pack the place, we could not have asked for a better turn out. I want to personally thank everyone who bought tickets, donated cash, prizes, auction items, and their time to make this such a fun night.

With over $4,000 raised, we quickly decided that we will make this an “annual” event. Stand by for an even bigger and better event next year. You have no idea how much this means to us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”

The next time you see these young future leaders serving the North County communities, please take a moment to say thank you.
