Carlsbad City Library September Author Talks

The Carlsbad City Library is hosting four Author Talk events this fall. The September and November Author Talks will be held in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad City Library located at 1775 Dove Lane. The October and December Author Talks will be held in the Cole Community Room at the Georgina Cole Library located at 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served for all events.

Michael Walker –Laurel Canyon: The Inside Story of Rock-and-Roll’s Legendary Neighborhood
Saturday, Sept. 16, 2 p.m.
Carlsbad City Library, Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane
Michael Walker tells the inside story of an unprecedented gathering of talent in Laurel Canyon, a canyon in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles colonized by some of the greatest musicians of the sixties and seventies. Over thirty years later, the canyon’s eclectic hits continue to have immense influence on pop culture and the music industry.

Author Panel Discussion with Eleanor Brown and Company – A Paris All Your Own
Sunday, Oct. 29, 2 p.m.
Georgina Cole Library Community Room, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive
Join best-selling authors Eleanor Brown, Michelle Gable, Jennifer Coburn and Maggie Shipstead for a panel discussion of their book A Paris all Your Own, an inspiring and charming compilation of essays by a collection of renowned authors on the “City of Light.” The essays explore the different sides of Paris, from its reputation as the ultimate destination for romance, to the Parisians defying stereotypes with genuine kindness. Eleanor Brown, the editor of the anthology, will moderate the discussion.

Dr. Edith Eger- The Choice: Embrace the Possible
Sunday, Nov. 12, 2 p.m.
Carlsbad City Library, Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane
Prominent psychologist Dr. Edith Eger will discuss her new book The Choice: Embrace the Possible, a moving, powerful memoir that recounts her time in the concentration camps of the Holocaust. She weaves her personal account with case studies from her practice, illustrating different phases of healing and forgiveness, and how people can escape their mental prisons and be joyous and free.

Richard Lederer- A Celebration of Libraries
Sunday, Dec. 3, 2 p.m.
Georgina Cole Library Community Room, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive
Honoring the 50th anniversary of the Georgina Cole Library, Union- Tribune language columnist, best-selling author and KPBS’s A Way with Words co-host Richard Lederer will illustrate how libraries change lives and will trace the history of the Cole Library.

Each program will include a discussion and Q&A session with the authors followed by a book sale and signing.

The September and November Author Talks are made possible by Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation’s Robert H. Gartner Cultural Endowment Fund. The October and December events are sponsored by the Friends of the Carlsbad Library. September through November programs are presented in partnership with Adventures by the Book.
