Coming Soon: Lego Robotics for all Second Graders

In the 2017-18 school year, thanks to a unique partnership between the Carlsbad Educational Foundation and Legoland California, Carlsbad Unified School District piloted the Junior First Lego League Robotics Program (Junior FLL Robotics) in one second grade classroom at each elementary school. Soon, our goal will be to roll it out to every second grade classroom in our district.

The six-week, twelve-lesson Junior FLL Robotics program gives second graders the opportunity to engage in engineering, robotics, design thinking, and collaboration. To see this work in action, please check out this video produced by Illuminating Pictures, a local production company in Carlsbad.

This exciting program compliments our other gradle-level specific learning opportunities, including Science in a Satchel for all second graders (study trips to the San Diego Botanic Garden, sponsored by the Carlsbad Educational Foundation); the City Stuff program for all third graders (focusing on the elements of municipal government, sponsored by the City of Carlsbad); natural science trips to the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center for all third graders (sponsored by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation and the Carlsbad Educational Foundation), and Junior Achievement’s BizTown program for all fifth graders (focused on financial literacy and career preparation, sponsored by the Carlsbad Educational Foundation).
