Cougars Fall to Broncos on Senior Day, 5-3

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In its 2019 home finale, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team took a 5-3 loss to Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

Prior to the game, the Cougars honored seniors Domenic Antonacci, Brandon Bachman, Grant Buck, Brady Corson, Näshéa Diggs, Taylor Greene, Troy Lamparello, Mike Lopez, Austin Ott, Jake Rico, John Stevens, Adam Tanoue, Cabot Van Til, Tyler Venturelli and Marcus Wilhite.

Domenic Antonacci – 2-for-3 | 2 R | 1 2B | 1 BB
Austin Ott – 1-for-3 | 2 RBIs | 1 BB
Griffin Teisher – 1-for-3 | 1 RBI

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Broncos got the scoring started in the top of the first inning as Nic Hernandez scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Brennan McKenzie.
•CSUSM took the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a two-run single through the right side by Ott.
•CPP retook the lead once again in the top of the fifth at 4-2 on an RBI single by Ryon Knowles and a two-run double to left center by Hernandez.
•CSUSM made it a one-run game at 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Teisher to first base while Antonacci scored from third.
•The Broncos extended their lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to center by Knowles.

QUICK HITS •CSUSM dropped to 23-25 (19-23 CCAA) while CPP improved to 23-25 (21-21 CCAA).
•Bronco starter Austin Isenhart (7-5) earned the win as he struck out six while allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 8.1 innings.
•Cougar starter Dylan Wannamaker (3-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one in five innings.
•Garcia’s team-leading 19-game hitting streak came to an end.
•Ott and Teisher pushed their reached-base streak to 14 games.
•Ott’s two RBIs tied him for the second-most in program history at 150.

UP NEXT
CSUSM will wrap up its 2019 regular season with a doubleheader at Pomona on Sunday at 1 p.m.
