Cougars Win Series Finale Over Stanislaus State, 4-0

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team walked away with a 4-0 series-finale victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars dropped game one 3-0 to split the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader.

GAME 1: STAN STATE 3 – CSUSM 0

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Warriors took advantage of a CSUSM error to take a 1-0 lead on Melissa Spencer’s RBI single in the third inning.
•Stan State pushed two more runs across the plate on a fielder’s choice in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.

QUICK HITS •The Cougars fall to 6-13 overall and 5-12 in CCAA play while the Warriors move up to 12-14, 8-11 in conference action.
•Ellie Smith (2-5) took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four.
•Stan State’s Megan Stacy tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED •In the opening frame, Melody Forstie hit an RBI single to right center to score Andelin who reached on a single to left.
•Forstie later scored on Wood’s RBI single to short right field to put CSUSM up 2-0 after the first inning.
•Scardina crushed a two-RBI line drive single to right field to give CSUSM two insurance runs at 4-0 in the fifth.

QUICK HITS •The Cougars improve to 7-13 overall and 6-12 in conference action while the Warriors fall to 12-15, 8-12 in CCAA play.
•Vinyard (3-4) collected the win after holding the Warriors scoreless, giving up only three hits and walking one batter.
•Kyndra Marzorini (7-6) for Stan State took the loss after relinquishing four runs on seven hits and walking one.
•Vinyard finished the series with 13 shutout innings, not allowing an earned run in 14 innings in the circle.
