Flora, Isayan Earn CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month Honors

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Women’s cross country’s Lisa Flora and men’s cross country’s Vahagn Isayan have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month presented by The Quad for November 2018.

The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.

Flora qualified for the NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Championship for the second consecutive season, finishing 54th out of 264 runners on Saturday. The senior secured an at-large bid after leading the Cougars at the NCAA West Regional Championships with a 12th-place time of 21:35.71 in the 6K. Prior to that, Flora finished third at the CCAA Championships with a 6K time of 21:31.9. For her performances, she earned All-West Region and All-CCAA honors for the second consecutive season.

Isayan was CSUSM’s top finisher at the CCAA Championships as he finished eighth in the 8K with a time of 24:43.3. The redshirt senior’s finish earned him All-CCAA honors for the second time in his career. He then helped the Cougars take seventh at the NCAA West Regionals with a 16th-place time of 31:34.0 in the 10K. For his performance, Isayan earned All-West Region honors for the first time in his career.

Flora and Isayan have concluded their collegiate cross country careers.
