SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos Director of Athletics Jennifer Milo announced the recent appointment of John Potter II as Assistant Director of Athletics, Communication.

“We are excited to add John to our Cougar family,” Milo said. “He brings incredible NCAA and leadership experience to CSUSM. I am confident that John will raise the bar for our marketing, branding and sports information platform.”

Potter comes to CSUSM after spending two years as the Director of Media Relations and External Operations at Western Oregon in Monmouth, Ore.

Prior to that, Potter served as the assistant sports information director and radio play-by-play broadcaster at Dixie State (Utah) for seven years.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Cougar family and thankful for the opportunity to work with the Cal State San Marcos athletic department to highlight the work being done on and off the field by our great student-athletes,” Potter said. “I am appreciative of the confidence the university has shown in me and my abilities to help propel CSUSM’s athletic identity.”

The Lakewood, Calif. native has also worked with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for the past six years, acting as the West Regional Coordinator for the past two years. Prior to joining Dixie State in 2008, he spent three years with St. George RoadRunners baseball team of the independent Golden Baseball League as the director of broadcast and media relations. Potter’s experience also includes television and radio at the collegiate and professional level.

Potter earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Dixie State in 2013 while working in the media relations office.

Potter officially started his appointment at CSUSM on July 5.
