CARLSBAD, Calif. — On November 22, at 9:13 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department communication center received an alert from a License Plate Reader camera advising that a stolen vehicle had been driven past one of our cameras located downtown.

A Police Officer responded to the area, located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 300 block of Grand Ave.

The driver failed to yield to the officer and a pursuit ensued. The driver of the stolen vehicle proceeded northbound in the 2500 block of Carlsbad Boulevard towards Oceanside.

A second officer responded to assist with the pursuit. While this officer was travelling northbound in the 2000 block of Coast Highway, with his overhead lights and siren activated, a vehicle exited a driveway into the officer’s path. The officer was unable to avoid striking the vehicle rear.

Neither driver was injured. Both drivers were checked by paramedics and medically cleared at the scene.

The pursued vehicle continued into Oceanside on Coast Highway approaching Oceanside Blvd. Due to the reckless driving of the suspect and given that they were approaching the Oceanside Turkey Trot race course, the decision was made to cancel the pursuit. The stolen vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Oceanside Blvd toward Interstate 5.

The California Highway Patrol responded and conducted the collision investigation.
