Oceanside Police Department Officer Involved Shooting

On December 20th, 2017 at approximately 3:02 pm the Oceanside Police Department Dispatch received a radio call of a San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy being in pursuit of a “Hit and Run” suspect in the City of Oceanside.
Prior to cover units arriving on scene to assist the Deputy, the suspect stopped his vehicle in the 3100 block of Camarillo Avenue and fled on foot. The Deputy pursued the driver on foot to the intersection of Roselle Avenue and Camarillo Avenue. Moments later, the suspect produced a handgun and the Deputy fired his duty weapon. The suspect was struck and fell to the ground. Other Deputies subsequently arrived on scene and began providing medical aid to the suspect until Paramedics arrived. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
Detectives from the Oceanside Police Department Investigations Division are investigating this shooting incident. A handgun was located at the scene. A female who was a passenger in the vehicle was detained by Detectives, interviewed, and subsequently released.
The name of the Deputy involved in this shooting incident is not being released at this time.
