The Palomar College District was awarded a United States Department of Education GEAR UP Rural and Reservation Grant for 2016-2023, serving Vista, Valley Center-Pauma and Fallbrook school districts. GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. The grant started serving all 6th and 7th grade students and continues services through high school graduation for the classes of 2022 and 2023 and into their first year in college.

GEAR UP seeks local businesses to collaborate and/or donate resources to offset the cost of transportation, meals and supportive services. In-kind matching funds are acquired when businesses provide in-kind training, informational workshops, donate products, services, and or financial support. The GEAR UP Grant requires business partnerships for in-kind funding and collaborates with business leaders in creating career pathways for students. https://www2.palomar.edu/pages/gearup/partnerships/become-a-partner/
