United Soccer Coaches Division II Men’s Scholar All-West Region Team

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos men’s soccer player Andrew Stalboerger was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men’s Scholar All-West Region Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-Region honors met the following criteria:
•3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career.
•Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team.
•Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution.
•Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school.

The senior Computer Science major posted a 3.67 cumulative GPA and was the only California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s soccer student-athlete to earn the honor. Stalboerger is also the first Cougar in program history to earn the award.

“It is fitting for Andrew to cap his career with the distinction of being named as a United Soccer Coaches West Region Scholar-Athlete,” CSUSM head coach Ron Pulvers said. “He has been a tremendous role model for what a scholar-athlete looks like. He is focused, persistent, and possesses a tireless work ethic in the classroom and on the soccer field. I am extremely proud for Andrew and his representation of our program.”

Stalboerger concluded his collegiate soccer career in late October, but he has earned multiple honors since. He earned his second career All-CCAA Honorable Mention on Nov. 1, before being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 first team on Nov. 8.

Team captain since his sophomore season, Stalboerger tallied one goal, two assists and four points in 2018. Stalboerger’s goal was CSUSM’s first of the season in the team’s 2-1 win at Concordia Irvine. Stalboerger ended his career with the most minutes ever played by a Cougar at 4,375 and tied for the most career starts at 51.
