Saturday, July 21st, was the day of the Annual Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social, hosted by the Vista Historical Society Museum located at 2317 Foothill Dr. This annual event offered all-you-can-eat ice cream as well as access to the Vista Historical Society Museum. Patrons were welcome to explore the courtyard as early as 1:00 p.m. until the ice cream serving began at 2:00 p.m., leading to the opening of the Museum at 4:00 p.m.

The society’s handsome courtyard could not have been more comfortable. Tables were set up beneath the shade of the trees and atop the lush grass. This was a great area to eat ice cream while mingling and meeting many local residents, including Vista Mayor Judy Ritter, as well as visitors from near and far. Ice cream was served by the Mr. and Miss Vista Pageant winners who were dressed in their pageant attire while serving chocolate and vanilla (root beer floats were not out of the question).

Vendors were plentiful, selling their locally crafted arts.

Of this, there were many painters who created a spectrum of images ranging from rolling waves to abstract watercolors. Jewelers displayed their finest handcrafted rings and necklaces that each had their own unique touch. Artisans also displayed beautiful leather purses, unique clothing, and housewares along with fall decorations, reminding us of summer’s eventual end.

The museum was another interesting aspect to this event. Once a typical farmhouse in the early 1900s, the Vista Historical Society Museum now features many exhibits that display the antique artifacts that were significant in the growth of Vista. Exhibits include military gear from WWII, fashion ranging from the 1800s to early 1900s, Native American artifacts, and the beginning History of Vista.

Ice cream, friends, and gorgeous summer weather are a classic mix for a Vista summer afternoon.
