SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos Athletics men’s and women’s basketball continues its three-week road trip on Saturday as the Cougars head down to La Jolla for a game against cross-county rival UC San Diego in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest.

The women’s game will get underway at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.

PREVIOUS WEEK •The Cougars defeated Stanislaus State, 69-65, in a come-from-behind victory on Thursday night.
•Junior Jon’Nae Vermillion tallied a season-high 24 points against the Warriors and collected her fifth double-double of the season with 15 rebounds.
•Junior Stephanie Custodio shot 11-of-11 at the free throw line and tallied 17 points with seven assists.
•With the win, CSUSM is tied for third with a 7-3 conference record alongside San Francisco State in the CCAA standings. UC San Diego remains undefeated at 10-0 while Cal Poly Pomona sits in second with an 8-1 record.
•Vermillion remains within the CCAA top ten for scoring (fifth) averaging 15.1 points per game and rebounds (eighth) averaging 8.6 boards per game.
•The Cougars moved up one spot to No. 8 in the latest D2SIDA West Regional Poll.

UC SAN DIEGO UPDATE •The Tritons defeated Stanislaus State last Saturday, 78-65.
•UCSD stands undefeated in their season, holding a CCAA record of 10-0 and 14-0 overall.
•In their last meeting, the Cougars fell to the Tritons in a two-point match, 54-52.
•Mikayla Williams leads the CCAA in scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game with a 55.7 field goal percentage and a 83.7 free throw percentage.
•As a team, the Tritons are averaging 79.6 points per game, placing them first in the CCAA.
•UCSD is ranked No. 6 in the WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the D2SIDA Poll.

THE JIMENEZ FILE •Head coach Renee Jimenez enters her fourth season in charge of the Cougar women’s basketball team, a program that is only in its eighth season of existence.
•In her eleven seasons coaching in the CCAA, Jimenez has compiled a 163-123 (.570) coaching record. She spent two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay.

PREVIOUS WEEK •Stanislaus State downed the Cougars on the road in CCAA action last Thursday, 82-60.
•Darae Elliott tallied a team-high 14 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. He posted his team-leading sixth double-double of the season.
•Freshman Bryce Sloan scored 13 points and went 3-of-5 from the 3-point line.
•Khalil Fuller posted 15 rebounds and leads the CCAA, averaging 8.4 boards per game. He falls within the top ten in the CCAA for scoring (fifth) 14.1 points per game and 48.2 field goal percentage (sixth).
•JR Williams is leading the conference in steals (39), while ranking 11th nationally.

ON THE ROAD AT STANISLAUS STATE •The Tritons enter Saturday’s game after posting an 87-70 win at Stanislaus State.
•The Tritons are on a two-game winning streak after falling to Cal State L.A. on Jan. 3.
•UCSD is on top of the CCAA standings with a 9-1 conference record.
•The Tritons lead the conference in field-goal percentage (48.3), three-point field-goal percentage (40.5) and free-throw percentage (76.4)
•Chris Hansen falls within the top ten in the conference in multiple categories: 16.1 points per game (third), 8.2 boards per game (third), 58.4 field-goal percentage (first), 52.8 3-point field-goal percentage (first) and 87.3 free-throw percentage (second).
•UC San Diego is ranked No. 18 in the NABC Coaches Poll and No. 23 in the D2SIDA poll.

THE FOSTER FILE •Head coach B.J. Foster enters his third season in charge of the CSUSM Men’s Basketball program after taking over the head position in 2016.
•Under his leadership, the Cougars advanced to the CCAA Tournament for the first time in 2017-18 after finishing the season with a 15-7 conference record and a 20-9 overall record.
•Prior to becoming head coach of the Cougars, Foster was an assistant coach with the team from 2013 to 2016.
•Foster has tallied a career record of 42-31 (.425).
