City Council Member Barbara Hamilton announced plans at Tuesday’s City Council meeting to step down from her seat effective Oct. 31. According to the Carlsbad Municipal Code, which is a collection of the city’s laws, vacancies can be filled by City Council appointment or an election.
Following the City Council meeting, the City Attorney provided the City Council with a memo outlining the options for filling the vacancy. City staff have tentatively scheduled a discussion of the options for the Sept. 24 City Council meeting.
Council Member Hamilton was elected in November 2018 to represent District 1, which is in the northwest part of Carlsbad. City Council terms are four years.
